Katrine Kjærulff, midwife, MPH, and Head of Clinical Team at the Maternity Foundation will give a presentation on:

How to use digital health tools to empower skilled birth attendants supporting normal labour and birth, in Low- and middle income countries.

Maternity Foundation is an international NGO working to ensure safer births for mothers and newborns. Together with two Danish universities, Maternity Foundation has developed the Safe Delivery App, a smartphone application that provides skilled birth attendants with direct and instant access to evidence-based and up-to-date clinical guidelines on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC).

The content of the Safe Delivery App was initially only focused on handling complications around childbirth – however, in 2020, Maternity Foundation added a module to the app on Normal Labour and Birth to support skilled birth attendants in keeping the normal deliveries normal by preventing complications but also reducing the risk of over-medicalization. Maternity Foundation will present their experience, considerations, challenges, and successes in developing digital content for the Safe Delivery App to support normal labour and birth.
