Challenging entrenched beliefs - rethinking fetal monitoring in labour

The aim of fetal monitoring during labour is to prevent irreversible damage from lack of oxygen. The use of cardiotocograph (CTG) monitoring (also known as electronic fetal monitoring) has become close to universal in high-income countries and is often accompanied by other technologies such as central fetal monitoring and computer analysis of the CTG. In this presentation, Obstetrician Kirsten Small exposes the lack of evidence for CTG use in labour and challenges us to have different conversations about fetal monitoring.
